Computers can carry out more and more tasks for us if we set them up accordingly. With Shut Down Expert, you can program local and remote computers to shut down, restart and perform other actions automatically, according to a custom timetable. It places a wide variety of options at your disposal, which make it significantly more valuable than any stock tool you will find in your operating system.

Although Shut Down Expert comes with a price tag, a free and unrestricted 30-day trial version is available, so you can see how it works. Downloading and installing the software is a straightforward operation, which doesn't involve any complicated settings. You can run the application on any modern Windows platform, without installing any prerequisite tools or services.

The user interface presents a series of actions, which can be executed automatically, as well as a variety of scheduling options. You can pick an action and set the software to execute it in a certain amount of time, at a specific date and time, between specified hours and so on. The actions and scheduling options are placed right in front of you, next to each other, on the upper half of the interface, and it only takes a few clicks to set up a scheduled task. When you're satisfied with your settings, you can just click a button to activate the task and add it to a list, on the lower half of the window.

Besides shutting down your computer or executing other power-related actions, the software can perform other tasks as well, like emptying the Recycle Bin, Ejecting and closing the CD-ROM tray, showing on-screen messages, downloading files, playing sounds and more. Furthermore, the application lets you add parameters, to execute additional actions, after launching an application for example.

Shut Down Expert comes with client and server capabilities, which give you the possibility of setting it up on multiple computers and schedule automated tasks on them remotely. If you have an office with multiple computers, you can set the application to execute one or more actions, without having to leave your desk. You can even set your computers to wake on LAN or WAN, so you can boot them up from any location.

With Shut Down Expert running on your computers, you won't have to worry about shutting them down or performing other operations yourself.

Pros

You can schedule a wide range of automatic actions. The software makes everything easy with its straightforward controls.

Cons

The interface's design looks a bit outdated.
